Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease similar to gonorrhoea and it affects close to four million people in the U.S alone, every year. The infection can be transmitted through vaginal, anal or oral sex and is largely asymptomatic in women. They are usually discovered during pelvic exams and sometimes during pregnancy. If untreated it could be transmitted to the child during a vaginal delivery. It may cause inflammatory pelvic disease, difficulty in becoming pregnant and in some cases lead to abortions. The symptoms include vaginal discharge or bleeding other than menses, painful sexual intercourse, painful urination, abdominal pain, fever and an abnormal urgency to urinate. As for men the disease is characterized by a burning sensation or pain while urinating, a mildly viscous, light coloured discharge from the penis, fever and tender or swollen testicles. If not treated in time it can spread to the testicles and in the long run even cause infertility.
Tips For Chlamydia Cure
Chlamydia requires immediate medical attention as it causes infertility and can affect your sperm count. A doctor will prescribe a dose of antibiotics and other preventive measures that you will need to follow in order to recover. There are no home remedies for the condition, although you may follow a few tips which include maintaining strict genital hygiene. Do not douche the area with scented or any other kind of wipe as it will only aggravate the condition, and may cause the infection to move up the vagina and into the urethral tract. If possible practise abstinence till you meet a doctor and complete your course of treatment. If this is not possible, use a condom, preferably latex to avoid infecting your partner. Once you start medication, abstain from sex till you are free of all the symptoms and wait for the medication to run its course entirely. Waiting for a week after medication would be the best solution, as it will ensure that you are completely free from the infection. If your partner has been infected, it would be advisable to wait out till his/her course is over as well. If you are having sex with multiple partners or a new partner sit the person down and have a talk about potential infections as there are always chances of you infecting someone or getting re-infected in turn.
Chlamydia can affect the eyes and lead to blindness in some cases. It is spread through the fingers touching the eye, using the same face or bathing towel, or coughing and sneezing. It can in advanced cases also lead to arthritis, and you may want to visit an ophthalmologist as well if it is in an advanced stage.

Dark circles under the eyes are usually caused by fatigue and lack of sleep. They are hereditary too, as some people inherit deep set eyes and pale skin that tends to highlight the blood vessels underneath the eye. Other causes include ageing which gradually thins the skin under the eyes and makes the folds look prominent and the blood flowing underneath shows more starkly. They are occasionally caused by skin allergies, reaction to medication, or may also be a sign of an underlying disease or health condition. It is important to identify the cause and consult a doctor immediately if the remedies do not work.
Home Remedies For Dark Circles
- Dark circles caused by fatigue are best remedied by long hours of sleep which will refresh and rejuvenate the body.
- You may apply used herbal tea bags that have been refrigerated, on the eyes for about 15-20 minutes every day for a month. The tannin present in the tea bag is known to cure puffiness and can be alternated with thin cucumber slices which eliminate vascular inflammation.
- A poultice made of crushed mint leaves and placed over the eyes for 20 minutes a day for a month should improve the condition of your eyes.
- Mix a teaspoon of tomato juice, the juice from half a lemon, half a teaspoon of gram flour and a pinch of turmeric till it is a smooth paste. Apply under the eyes and rinse off with cold water after ten minutes. Make sure that it does not enter the eyes as it might cause mild irritation.
- Keep thin slices of a potato over your eyes or crush the potato and dip cotton balls into the juice and apply over the eyes. The starch in the potato should help lighten the circles.
- Gently massage almond oil under the eyes thrice a week before going to bed. Continue the treatment for 2 months, for best results.
- A paste made from ground almonds and milk is a popular remedy and can be applied daily for about ten minutes.
- Drink about 10-12 glasses of water a day as this will keep the body and skin hydrated.
- A concoction made of tomato juice, lemon juice, crushed mint leaves and salt as part of your daily diet is a useful remedy for dark circles.
The dark circles may also be caused by hyper pigmentation when the skin produces excess melanin to protect itself from the Ultra Violet rays of the sun. Wear sunglasses when stepping out and use a sunscreen with an SPF above 30 under the eyes.

Clenching, grinding or gnashing your teeth is in medical terms called Bruxism, and this condition affects both adults and children. In children it usually stops by adolescence as their teeth are fully formed and the misalignment that existed earlier as the teeth were forming is rectified. In adults, Bruxism is much more serious and can be attributed to a variety of factors such as an inordinate amount of stress and anxiety, acute repression and suppressed anger. Experts suggest that hyperactive, controlling personalities who are aggressive and unhealthily competitive are more prone to it than others. It could be caused by a sleep disorder, an injury to the head, jaw or neck, a side effect of antidepressant medication, or using drugs like cocaine and ecstacy. Caffeine and caffeinated drinks which act as stimulants and alcohol are also known to aggravate the condition. It may also be the result of misaligned teeth, when the teeth in the upper and lower jaws do not fit into each other. A dentist will be able to advice you on it if this is the case. Some studies argue that it is linked to disorders of the nervous system such as Parkinson’s or Huntington’s disease.
The most common symptoms of bruxism are sensitive teeth, a sore jaw, loss of bone support for the teeth, or conversely the development of bony ridges in the jaw to support the loss. If these symptoms are accompanied by earaches, ringing in the ears, pain around the jaw when chewing, pain in the neck, shoulder and unexplainable headaches it could be a sign of chronic Bruxism, which may have led to a mandibular joint problem which will require immediate medical attention.
Home Remedies for Bruxism
- The home remedies you can practise include applying an ice pack or wet heat to your jaw muscles if they are sore, massaging the face, neck and shoulders, and relaxing the face and muscles in the jaw regularly.
- Drink at least 4-5 litres of water every day and give the teeth rest by avoiding hard food items like candy, nuts and steak.
- You can try to munch on an apple, a cauliflower or carrot before going to bed as it will not only exercise the gums, but will also calm the mouth a bit.
- A hot water bath and a massage is likely to reduce stress levels and consequently Bruxism. A warm washcloth placed across the face from one side to another will also help in attaining similar results.
- Avoid drinking alcohol before going to bed; however, you may consume a cup of herbal tea or warm milk. Calcium and magnesium supplements are also known to help, but consult a doctor if your symptoms still persist.

Smallpox is a very serious contagious disease caused by the variola virus. In the course of human history, this disease has caused millions of deaths, since around 30 percent of infected people die. Unfortunately, there is no known medical treatment for the disease, which can leave survivors with permanent scarring due to the large number of bumps (called pustules) that are a characteristic of smallpox. Many patients who recover from this condition may lose their eyesight too.
Stages and Symptoms of Smallpox
Typically, the symptoms of smallpox appear in several stages. At first, there is an incubation period of one to three weeks after exposure to the virus, where the patient appears completely fine. This is followed by a high fever that lasts for 3-5 days, accompanied by body aches and nausea. This is followed by a rash of small, red spots, which are usually present in the mouth. These develop sores that burst, spreading the virus and making this the most contagious stage of the disease. Within a few hours, the rash spreads to most parts of the body. In a few days, small bumps appear that soon become pustules, which scab over and fall off in a matter of weeks if the patient survives.
Over the centuries, many remedies were used for smallpox, though most only help to reduce the symptoms and cannot cure the disease. Isolating the patient is important, since smallpox is highly contagious. Once the pustules are formed, baths in warm water with oatmeal can help to relieve itchiness. A few drops of tea tree oil can also be used as a preventative measure against secondary bacterial infection of the skin. Once the pustules fall off, applying aloe vera gel could help to reduce the scarring effects of smallpox.
In the last century, a successful vaccine was developed using live samples of vacinnia, a virus related to the variola virus but does not cause smallpox. Successful vaccination programs soon helped to remove smallpox from the human population and the last reported case was in the 1970s. During that same time, the U.S. declared smallpox to be eradicated and vaccinations were stopped. However, certain research institutions still have samples of live smallpox, which has raised fears of accidental or purposeful release (bioterrorism) of the virus to the general population. In the last decade, the government has started stockpiling vaccines for any such national emergency, and some defense personnel are already being vaccinated if they are judged to be in a high risk environment.

· Filed under Symptoms and Causes ·Tagged bipolar mood swings, symptoms of manic depression, types of bipolar disorder
Bipolar disorder, also sometimes referred to as manic depressive syndrome, is a psychological condition in which the patient experiences wild swings in mood and behavior. Typically, these range from a ‘manic’ phase, where the individual appears extremely upbeat, to the lows of ‘depressive’ behavior. Symptoms of bipolar disorder are extremely varied, depending on the phase the patient is experiencing. In the manic phase, the individual may exhibit high risk behavior, unusual levels of energy and activity, restlessness, and constantly shifting focus in thought and activities. At the other end of the spectrum, the same person will have low levels of energy and interest, problems in concentration, loss of interest in work and activities, and reduced ability to make decisions. Perhaps the most serious complication of bipolar disorder is the tendency to have suicidal thoughts and behavior during this depressive phase. In fact, some studies indicate that almost 30 percent of bipolar people attempt suicide at least once.
In most cases, there is usually a period of so-called ‘normal’ behavior in between the manic and depressive phases. However, bipolar patients exhibit various combinations of such changes in mood, which is why it is classified into several sub-types, including Bipolar I, Bipolar II, and Rapid Cycling. This makes it even more difficult for a successful diagnosis and treatment of bipolar disorder, making it important to refer to a mental health professional at the earliest. Since bipolar disorder contains elements of various other psychological conditions, it is difficult to understand the exact cause of the disorder. Most instances are linked to genetic factors along with environmental conditions. Treatments available for bipolar patients vary, depending on the sub-type and intensity of symptoms. Some cases may need hospitalizations and supervision, while others may need long-term medication. However, a few cases can also be treated with the help of psychological counseling.
Bipolar Disorder – Manic Depression Treatment
There is no medically-approved home treatment for this serious psychological condition. Perhaps the only effective ‘remedy’ for an individual is to be able to understand the gravity of the problem and seek expert care. A few cases can benefit from maintaining a healthy lifestyle that minimizes mood swings and helps to reduce the intensity of the depressive phases. This can include regular exercise, meditation, and a well-balanced diet rich in natural, fresh foods. All of these help to relieve stress and increase the mind’s ability to deal with depression. Some people report positive benefits from a diet containing omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, but studies have yet to confirm this.

· Filed under Treatments ·Tagged hair loss home remedy, natural remedies for hair loss, alopecia home remedies, alopecia natural treatment, alopecia causes
Alopecia is the scientific name for hair loss, a very common condition that affects both men and women. Most cases of hair loss, especially in men, can be linked to hereditary causes. For example, male pattern baldness or androgenic alopecia causes hair loss in a characteristic pattern, beginning with the forehead and top of the head. This particular type of alopecia is caused by a hereditary genetic condition that converts normal testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT affects the hair follicles (roots), preventing healthy growth of hair and leading to progressive baldness. However, alopecia can also be caused by several other conditions, including certain fungal infections of the scalp, damage to the skin by trauma or burns, certain medication like that used in chemotherapy, and as a side-effect of some diseases which cause an inflammation of the scalp. In a few cases, hair loss is also a temporary effect of intense stress or emotional trauma. Some types of hair loss can be treated, while others may require cosmetic procedures, such as hair grafting or weaving. However, in almost all cases early treatment is the key, since it is rare for lost hair to grow back. A dermatologist can analyze the condition and prescribe treatment, if available.
Home Treatment for Alopecia
At home, individuals can take certain steps to prevent some forms of alopecia. Perhaps the easiest home remedy to follow is that of regular head massages using natural oils such as almond, olive, or coconut. A weekly massage with evening primrose oil or flaxseed oil is great, since these contain omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which are linked to development of healthy hair. A gentle massage using mildly warm oil can help to invigorate the scalp, increasing blood flow to the hair follicles and providing moisture and protection to the hair itself.
For best results, it is recommended that the hair should be wrapped in a warm towel for fifteen minutes after the massage. It is also advisable to avoid hair products that contain harsh chemicals that can damage the hair, especially alcohol. Baby shampoos are ideal, especially if mixed with a little olive oil for extra conditioning. Common apple cider vinegar makes a great natural conditioner for touch-ups, if required. It is also important to provide the hair with the nourishment required to build keratin, the basic component of hair. A diet rich in minerals such as zinc, magnesium, and iron can help revitalize hair, along with vitamins such as A, B, C, and E.

Head lice are an undesirable and repulsive parasite that really upset the one who happens to find them in the hair. Head lice even lead to social distancing and isolation of the person often who is inflicted with it. Unfortunately, head lice can travel from one person’s head to another very easily. When they enter a person’s hair, the scalp becomes scratchy because the lice get stuck to the scalp and bite, which results in itchiness and sometimes more serious problems. Getting rid of head lice is sometimes an uphill task, as they can reappear promptly even after removing them, as they lay nits in the hair. One needs to be really patient and vigilant to break the cycle, in order to keep them at bay constantly.
Head Lice Remedies
There are numerous home remedies that can effectively remove head lice for good.
- Olive oil and tea tree oil are powerful components that combat head lice. Take half a cup of olive oil and mix about three tablespoons tea tree oil in it. Massage it on the scalp and hair well. Leave it on for about an hour and wash the hair well. After that, pour some vinegar in your palms and apply to your hair. Rinse it off with hot water after some minutes. Vinegar works its way in loosening the grip of the nits that cling to the hair shaft. Use a lice comb to remove lice and nits after your hair dries.
- Petroleum jelly is also a useful product that controls head lice. Apply the jelly thoroughly on your entire head. Leave it on for hours together, preferably overnight, or longer for even better results. However, removing all the jelly will be a prolonged task. You’ll have to pay minute attention and devote a long time for removing it from your hair by shampooing more than once. Mayonnaise is another ingredient that can put an end to the menace of head lice. For that, coat your whole head and scalp with mayonnaise. Let it stay on your head for about an hour or two and wash it off thoroughly. This treatment will smother the lice as well as the nits. Comb your hair with a fine toothed comb or lice comb to remove them and condition your hair finally.
- And, as an added protection measure, wash all your bed sheets, quilts, clothing and material that you used when you had head lice to minimize reoccurrence of the nasty pests.

Frozen shoulder, also called adhesive capsulitis, is a painful, inflamed, and stiff condition of the shoulder that usually affects people in their middle age and especially between 40-60 years. The symptoms make it difficult for the sufferer to carry out daily chores, as it makes movement of the shoulder very difficult. The condition can make a person so incapacitated that they find it difficult and painful to carry out simple tasks like brushing teeth or even combing hair. There are three stages of frozen shoulder – freezing, frozen, and thawing. The first stage, freezing stage, is when the problem begins and pain and stiffness sets in. In the frozen stage, joints start to stiffen, experience restriction in movement and become most painful. The third stage is thawing, wherein the problem starts to ease. But, thawing does not mean an end of the problem. The problem recurs even after subsiding. There are no specific causes of frozen shoulder but it’s usually caused by trauma or an injury, bad posture, problematic auto-immune system or even heart diseases, diabetes, and lung disease. Women are more susceptible to the ailment than men.

Appendicitis is an inflamed condition of the appendix, which leads to excruciating pain in the lower end of the abdomen, since that is where the appendix is located. Appendicitis can be a chronic or acute problem that affects both men and women equally, and usually affects people between the ages of 10 to 30. The problem is easily curable with a simple surgery that can bring the sufferer’s condition back to normal in two weeks. But, if left untreated it can lead to death if it bursts and causes an infection. The symptoms of appendicitis include a sudden pain in the center abdomen initially that shifts to lower side gradually, indigestion, diarrhea or constipation, and fever. Appendicitis is usually caused by bacterial infection in the intestinal tract or because of build up of excessive toxic waste in the cecum, the part with which the large intestine begins. This toxic waste inflames and irritates the appendix leading to the painful condition of appendicitis.
Home Remedies For Appendicitis Pain
Though appendicitis can be cured by surgery, there are treatments that one can undertake at home to prevent and get relief from the problem.
- One of the best treatments of appendicitis is consuming a mix of 100 ml juices of beetroot and cucumber each, and 300 ml of carrot juice twice everyday.
- You can also have the juices of coriander, radish and spinach regularly.
- Consuming tea prepared from fenugreek seeds is also very beneficial for the treatment of appendicitis. Boil one tablespoon of fenugreek seeds in one liter of water for 30 minutes over a low flame. Strain it and set it aside to cool till it becomes lukewarm. Drinking this regularly will prevent excess mucus and waste from forming in the appendix.
- Those who have chronic appendicitis must have about a liter of buttermilk everyday to get rid of the problem.
- The sufferer can also consume one teaspoon of green grams everyday to treat appendicitis.
- A combination of raw ginger powder and turmeric powder alleviates pain and swelling caused by appendicitis.
- It’s also important for the patient of appendicitis to be on a specific diet with lots of water to flush out the waste from the body. Consuming juicy fruits like watermelon and cucumber would also be beneficial.
- Other than that, squeezing lime and honey in a glass of lukewarm water and consuming it soothes appendicitis.
The patient must have fruits, milk, nuts, steamed vegetables, buttermilk, salads, sprouts, homemade cottage cheese, and sugarcane juice on a daily basis.
