Alopecia is the scientific name for hair loss, a very common condition that affects both men and women. Most cases of hair loss, especially in men, can be linked to hereditary causes. For example, male pattern baldness or androgenic alopecia causes hair loss in a characteristic pattern, beginning with the forehead and top of the head. This particular type of alopecia is caused by a hereditary genetic condition that converts normal testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT affects the hair follicles (roots), preventing healthy growth of hair and leading to progressive baldness. However, alopecia can also be caused by several other conditions, including certain fungal infections of the scalp, damage to the skin by trauma or burns, certain medication like that used in chemotherapy, and as a side-effect of some diseases which cause an inflammation of the scalp. In a few cases, hair loss is also a temporary effect of intense stress or emotional trauma. Some types of hair loss can be treated, while others may require cosmetic procedures, such as hair grafting or weaving. However, in almost all cases early treatment is the key, since it is rare for lost hair to grow back. A dermatologist can analyze the condition and prescribe treatment, if available.
Home Treatment for Alopecia
At home, individuals can take certain steps to prevent some forms of alopecia. Perhaps the easiest home remedy to follow is that of regular head massages using natural oils such as almond, olive, or coconut. A weekly massage with evening primrose oil or flaxseed oil is great, since these contain omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which are linked to development of healthy hair. A gentle massage using mildly warm oil can help to invigorate the scalp, increasing blood flow to the hair follicles and providing moisture and protection to the hair itself.
For best results, it is recommended that the hair should be wrapped in a warm towel for fifteen minutes after the massage. It is also advisable to avoid hair products that contain harsh chemicals that can damage the hair, especially alcohol. Baby shampoos are ideal, especially if mixed with a little olive oil for extra conditioning. Common apple cider vinegar makes a great natural conditioner for touch-ups, if required. It is also important to provide the hair with the nourishment required to build keratin, the basic component of hair. A diet rich in minerals such as zinc, magnesium, and iron can help revitalize hair, along with vitamins such as A, B, C, and E.

Frozen shoulder, also called adhesive capsulitis, is a painful, inflamed, and stiff condition of the shoulder that usually affects people in their middle age and especially between 40-60 years. The symptoms make it difficult for the sufferer to carry out daily chores, as it makes movement of the shoulder very difficult. The condition can make a person so incapacitated that they find it difficult and painful to carry out simple tasks like brushing teeth or even combing hair. There are three stages of frozen shoulder – freezing, frozen, and thawing. The first stage, freezing stage, is when the problem begins and pain and stiffness sets in. In the frozen stage, joints start to stiffen, experience restriction in movement and become most painful. The third stage is thawing, wherein the problem starts to ease. But, thawing does not mean an end of the problem. The problem recurs even after subsiding. There are no specific causes of frozen shoulder but it’s usually caused by trauma or an injury, bad posture, problematic auto-immune system or even heart diseases, diabetes, and lung disease. Women are more susceptible to the ailment than men.
Home Remedies For Frozen Shoulder Treatment
Usually, the treatment of frozen shoulder involves physiotherapy along with moist heat or ice ultrasound. Physiotherapy includes specific exercises for the shoulder and also some stretching exercises, which must be done at home. Even if the exercises are painful in the beginning, one has to continue it to cure the problem.
- Warm oil massages are beneficial for relaxing muscles. Have someone give you a massage to loosen the muscles and make movements easier.
- Soaking black sesame seeds in water overnight and consuming the next morning is known to alleviate pain and stiffness of the shoulder.
- Taking a hot shower or soaking in a bathtub with warm water and half a cup of Epsom salt for 20 minutes everyday also alleviates pain and loosens muscles.
- A warm bath or shower especially before exercise is beneficial as it increases blood flow in the region and stretches the tissues. Applying hot and cold compresses on the shoulder also alleviates the symptoms. Ice is known to be one of the best curers of pain and hot compress is good for relaxing muscles.
- It’s also important to maintain good posture all the time to prevent frozen shoulder. Check for your posture in the mirror before beginning your exercise session. And, remember that the therapy is a long and painful process. Continue it nevertheless to get positive results.

Besides these particular remedies, you should also follow a few dietary measures to solve the problem. Include plenty of red and orange fruits like carrots, beetroot, pineapples, apples and oranges in your diet. Milk, yoghurt, cottage cheese and sprouts are also recommended. Stay away from tinned and refined foodstuff containing artificial additives as they can worsen the condition. You should also stay away from sweet bakery products such as pastries as they are high in artificial flavors, sugars and processed flours and all of these can aggravate this condition. Pulses, fruits, skinless chicken and vegetables should form the basis of your diet as this will ensure that you get adequate nutrition on a daily basis.

Swimming in a public pool which has contaminated water is often the main reason behind swimmers ear. Cleaning the ears with sharp instruments or fingernails may also cause minor bruises to the skin lining of the ear canal, and thereby make it vulnerable to infections. The most common symptoms of this condition are itching and pain inside the ear, difficulty in hearing, pus-like discharge from the ear, a soft humming sound inside the ear, swelling and stuffiness around the ear.

Neuritis is a disorder in which one or several nerves in a particular part of the body get inflamed, causing occasional stinging and burning shots of pain in the area. In severe cases, the muscles of the adjoining areas may become temporarily paralyzed, leading to a feeling of numbness. The main reason behind this condition is the accumulation of toxins in the blood and other body fluids. Excessive consumption of alcohol or the accidental intake of poisonous substances like lead, arsenic and mercury could be the reason behind this. Lack of essential nutrients in the diet, a faulty lifestyle involving excessive work and inadequate rest and irregularities in metabolism may also be responsible for neuritis. Local injuries, especially in the trunk, can also lead to this condition.
Natural Home Remedies for Neuritis
There are a few home remedies that you may find useful in treating neuritis.
- One of the most effective remedies is the regular consumption of soy milk. In order to extract the milk, soak a handful of soybeans in water overnight, grind them to a fine paste the next morning, add three cups of water to this and set it to boil. Once the mixture starts boiling, stir it constantly for 5 minutes and then strain out the clear liquid extract with cheesecloth. Add a little sugar to this extract and let it cool down to room temperature. Mix a little honey to this and drink small parts of this solution every night before going to bed. Soy milk contains natural chemicals that rejuvenate the nerves and thereby cure neuritis. However this remedy should not be used by women and children as soy milk consumption has been seen to have some very serious side effects – such as increase tumor size and causing autoimmune thyroid diseases. Make sure that you speak to your doctor before you use this treatment.
- Another effective remedy is to drink a mixture of equal portions of raw carrot and spinach juice every morning at breakfast. This is an excellent way of supplying vitamins and minerals to the body, the deficiency of which may be responsible for nervous system.
- You may also boil some barley in a cup of water till it is reduced to half, then collect the liquid extract and add half a cup of buttermilk and the juice of half a lime to it. Drink this decoction regularly to strengthen your nerves naturally.
- It is also believed that having hot baths in a solution of Epsom salts and water thrice every week lessens the symptoms of neuritis.
- Include natural sources of vitamin B in your diet such as whole grains, sprouts, beetroot, pineapple, oranges and yoghurt, in order to treat neuritis. Avoid refined foods such as breads made of white flour, beverages like tea and coffee, tinned fish and red meats.
